Call for Research Papers and Posters for the 69th  Annual Convention of the STAI to be held from 20th - 23rd  August, 2008 at Welcomhotel Rama International, Aurangabad, Maharashtra

 

The 69th Annual Convention of the STAI will be held from 20th - 23rd August 2008 at Aurangabad.  Research Papers for the above Convention are invited from the members of all the Association in the following disciplines:

 

 

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING PAPERS

 

 

 

ABSTRACT:   Provide a concise  factual  statement   in  around 150-200 words why  the work was done and  what are the principal findings.  A well written abstract will  be ineligible without  reference to the  paper itself. Acronyms and abbreviations must be avoided and the introduction should inform the reader of the overall purpose of the paper and it should be succinct and also provide information on the previous work or experience on the theme of the paper.

 

KEY WORDS: Immediately following the abstract authors should write “Keywords: ………..” and include less than eight keywords indicating the contents of the articles.

 

 

LENGTH:  Articles/Papers should be in the region of 1500 and 3000 words(excluding Abstract).  Tables and figures only strictly necessary for the presentation should be included. 

 

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:  Where authors desire they may include a short section of acknowledgements.  It should not be more than 50 words.

 

TABLES:  Tables must be submitted separately on individual sheets of paper numbered consecutively.  The position of each table should be indicated in the text (e.g. table 1).  Title and column headings should be in lower case letter except for the initial letter of the first word and proper nouns.  A complete list of tables with titles should be presented on a separate sheet of paper where necessary.

 

The diagrams, drawings, graphs etc. must be prepared on Tracing Cloth, Bristol or high quality papers with India ink.

 

The diagrams should not be bigger than 23cm x 16 cm

 

If there is any photo the same must be on glazed paper

The metric system of units are to be used.

 

PAGE NUMBERS: Number all pages, except the first, in the upper right hand corner.

 

ELECTRONIC FORMAT

 

The standard operating system for the convention is Windows 98.  The preferred electronic format for manuscripts is MS Word.  Text developed in other formats should be converted to ASCII files (Plain text files)

 

The graphs for the paper, as far as possible, should be produced in Harvard Business Graphics.  In case of graphs developed in other graphics packages the individual data points can be sent in ASCII format with a “,” to delimit each data point and spaces to separate data sets or ranges.  Alternatively it can be produced in Excel or Powerpoint programme.

 

In all cases of electronic format for manuscript and figures, authors should provide a note describing the programs used and the identification of files.

 

Diskettes should be 3.5 inch standard size.  In all cases the electronic format should be accompanied by a hard copy of all relevant information.  Files should be virus-free as far as possible.  Papers can be sent as E – mail attachments, as long as these are within 200 K. Bites otherwise, it should be zipped files.

 

Also alternatively if above electronic format facilities are not available with the author, then it that case they may send three hard copies of the manuscript.  Three copies of the main text typed or printed double spaced on standard A4 or 28 cm x 21 cm sheets, accompanied by three copies of the figures and tables as described above, should be sent.

 

CERTIFICATE

 

Authors are requested to give a certificate that the papers / posters submitted are original and have not been communicated for publication elsewhere..  It is very necessary that this information should be given without fail to avoid rejection of the papers.

 

Papers received after the due date and if not found in accordance with the instructions given would be liable for rejection.  The suitability or otherwise of the paper will be judged by a panel of judges or experts whose decision will be final.

 

 

PRESENTATION DURING THE CONVENTION

 

 

Each paper shall be allotted a total time of 20 minutes for presentation & discussion during the convention.  The authors are therefore requested to come prepared with slides, transparencies, power point presentation, floppies etc. and try to finish the presentation in 10-12 minutes so that, sufficient time is left for a few questions and answers.

 

HONORARIUM

 

In order to give encouragement to the authors of the papers, Rs.2,000.00 (Rupees Two Thousand only) per paper as Honorarium is given to the authors subject to the following conditions:

 

One of the authors who presents the paper in person at the convention, he/she will be entitled Honorarium as mentioned above.

 

 

Honorarium shall be maximum Rs.2,000.00 irrespective of number of papers presented by the author.

It will be appreciated, if you kindly send your papers well before , 21st June 2008.

 

The  last  date of receipt of research papers has been extended to 21st June 2008 and beyond this date no papers will be accepted.

 

INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS FOR THEIR PAPERS FOR PUBLICATION IN THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ASSOCIATION

 

1.    Title :  The Title of the paper should be brief but informative.  In case of a lengthy title, a main title and a sub title should preferably be given.

 

2.     Author’s Name: The Author’s name and the complete mailing address of the place of the institution or organization where the work was undertaken should be given.  If the current address is different it should be indicated in a footnote.

 

3.     Text:  The paper meant for publication in the Proceeding should deal with a scientific or technical subject relating to any of the aspects of the Sugar Industry: as mentioned under themes in the circular.  The paper should relate to original work done by the author or contain the results of study and observations made in the course of his/her professional work.  The papers related to all four disciplines should have the data of article at least for 3 years.  Authors should give preference on papers on plant biogenetic engineering, tissue culture, bio-fertilizer, bio-pest control, drip irrigation system on sugarcane, improvement in sugar recovery and sugarcane yield per hectare.  Varieties with multiple ratooning ability and resistant to insects, pests & diseases, molecular genetics in sugarcane, development of integrated water technology management, post harvest technology, mechanization of sugarcane cultivation etc.  The Engineering papers should focus on improvements on alternative technologies for higher juice extraction, energy saving etc.  The Manufacturing papers should be given emphasis on research work for new technologies for white sugar manufacture and other sugar processes.  Reviews on specific subjects of current interest to the industry would also be welcomed.  The General & Co-products section would include Scientific Management Techniques, Management Information System, Financial Management, Co-generation projects covering latest issues and production of ethanol as alternative fuel providing a new dimension into the present stage related to Sugar Industry.

 

4.     An introductory statement should briefly describe the aims of investigation, presenting only essential background without summarising the work itself.  Technical terms should be defined.  Symbols, abbreviations, Technical terms  and acronyms must be defined the first time they are used.  In research papers, present techniques used in sufficient detail to allow them to be repeated.  A concise and well-presented paper can be processed and published very promptly. 

 

5.     Graphics : Original drawings of graphs and diagrams or clear glossy photographs must be submitted with the paper.  Original drawings should be prepared on tracing cloth, Bristol board or high quality paper with India ink.  The ordinates and abcissa of graphs should be labeled along the axes and outside the graph.  The drawings are usually reduced to a width of 3 inches to accommodate in a single column of the printed page.

 

6.     General : Careful correction of the typographical and other errors must be carried out by the authors; this would save time on the part of the editor and printer.

 

7.     Papers should be in the English Language, which should be clear and properly punctuated.  It has been experienced in the past that the authors do not pay any attention to punctuation and commit numerous grammatical errors even after clear instruction.  Hence, the paper should not be in poor language otherwise it may lead to rejection of the paper.  

8.     Articles submitted and accepted for publication in the proceedings shall be deemed to be the copyright of the Association and shall not be reproduced without the written permission of the Association.

Lettering should, therefore, be large enough so that it remains legible when the drawing are reduced.  Lettering sense should preferably be used.  Figure captions and legends are usually in type and should not be lettered on the drawing.  Each drawing or photograph should bear the figure number, author’s name and the title of the paper in pencil.  Position of the figure in the text should be indicated by writing in pencil on the margin of the text.  A list of the figures with captions and legends should be supplied on a separate typed page.
