1. INDIAN SUGAR INUSTRY

India is the second largest producer of sugarcane in the world next to Brazil. It is also the second largest agro-based industry in India located in rural areas. About 50 million farmers, their dependents and a large number of agricultural labourers are involved in sugarcane cultivation, harvesting and ancillary activities constituting 7.5% of the rural population. Besides this industry provides employment to about 2 million skilled, semi-skilled and other workers employed in ancillary activities, mostly from rural areas. There are about 594 sugar mills ranging in capacity from 1000 to 12000 TCD.  Many of these use state-of-the-art equipment technologies with integrated facilities for cogeneration of power and manufacture of ethanol.  The industry has been the focal point for socio-economic development of the country.

ABOUT INDIA AND MAJOR IMPORTANT CITIES FOR EXCURSION

India is an ancient land of majestic forts, serene churches and archaeological wonders that speaks of an age-old civilization. India – a subcontinent almost as large as Europe – a land of silvery snow peaks and sun-drenched golden beaches, dense forests and arid deserts, bustling cities and slumberous villages. India’s land, its people and its antiquity combine too make it the most interesting and varied destination for conferences in the world. India has a  rich cultural heritage over  5,000 years old when one of the oldest civilizations existed on the banks of the river Indus. The assimilation of the Aryans who came from the North, the Greeks left behind by Alexander the Great, the Muslims, the Mughals and the Persians and subsequently the British have further enriched this heritage.

India basically has a tropical climate with three main seasons :

Summer season  :      April to June (Temp. 20–40 C)
Monsoon season :      July to Sept. (Temp. 17–35 C)
Winter season     :      October to March (Temp. 5–20 C)
