STAI



    STAI - The Sugar Technologists' Association of India, was established in 1925. Today, its 2600 and above strong membership represents agriculturists, agronomists, sugar engineers and technologists of the Indian sub-continent and abroad. Now the Association is serving the sugar industry for more than 82 years. The main objectives of the Association are:


    • To promote knowledge of the science and practice of sugar technology
    •  
    • To carry out\sponsor scheme of research related to sugar and allied industries
    •  
    • To provide opportunity for exchange of knowledge amongst its members
    •  
    • To print, publish and circulate papers and journals connected with profession

    In pursuance to its goals since its inception, the STAI has a credit in making excellent rapport with the major international organisations related with the sugar industry. It has twice successfully hosted the ISSCT Congresses at New Delhi, once in 1956 and the other in 1999 & two ISSCT Works.  In the year 2003, STAI successfully conducted the 23rd ICUMSA Session at Pune.  It was the first time that any ICUMSA Session took place in Asia.  The representatives of the Association are also on various Government Committees.

    At the international front the Association has taken a number of study tours\trips to the various sugar producing countries of the world to acquire first hand information on the latest technologies for the Indian Sugar Industry. 

    The Association awards  the Noel Deerr Gold Medal and STAI Silver Medal to the authors of the best papers during its Annual Convention every year in various streams and the papers are also published in the proceedings of the Annual Convention.  

    The STAI also conducts every year the S.N. Gundurao Memorial Lecture Series in which  it invites a renowned personality from India/abroad to deliver the lecture. 

    Major Achievements for the year 2005-06 :

    • Following up the two R&D projects taken up with The Ugar Sugar Works Ltd., and inviting new proposals for taking up further projects in future

    • Applying for a joint Patent – “Bagasse Dryer” in the names of STAI & Ugar Sugar Works Ltd

    • Introduction of Dr. Bansi Dhar Gold Medal Award to be given o the author of the best paper on the topic entitled "INNOVATION IN THE AREA OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION IN SUGAR INDUSTRY"

    • Bid for holding the 67th Annual Technical Conference of SIT Inc., USA in India in the year 2009

    • Revision & release of the 2nd Edition of the STAI publication "System of Technical Control for Cane Sugar Factories in India" for sale  

    • Holding of General Elections for the Council members & Office Bearers of the STAI for the years 2006-08

    • Initiation of consultancy and recruitment work

    • R&D Initiative with Ulka Engineering Works

    • Introduction of 3 tier registration in Convention
