It is proposed to hold the 69th Annual Convention of the STAI from 20th - to 23rd of August 2008 at Welcomhotel Rama International, Maharashtra.   Research Papers are invited from the members of  the Association  on the following disciplines:
 
 
1.      Sugarcane Agriculture 
2.    Equipment Design and Maintenance (Earlier named as Engineering)
3.    *Utilities of Energy Efficiency & Conservation in Sugar Industry
4.    Factory Processing (Earlier known as Manufacturing)
5.    General & Co-Products 

*     The paper presented in this section shall also be eligible for

 

       consideration for award of Dr. Bansi Dhar Gold Medal

The  last  date of receipt of research paper is extended upto 21st June, 2008 and beyond this date the paper will not be accepted.
 
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING PAPERS
 
1.  ABSTRACT:       Provide a concise  factual  statement   in  around 150-200 words why  the work was done and  what are the principal findings.  A well written abstract will  be ineligible without  reference to the  paper itself. Acronyms and abbreviations must be avoided and the introduction should inform the reader of the overall purpose of the paper and it should be succinct and also provide information on the previous work or experience on the theme of the paper.
 
2.  KEY WORDS:     Immediately following the abstract authors should write “Keywords: ………..” and include less than eight keywords indicating the contents of the articles.

 

3.  LENGTH:         Articles/Papers should be in the region of 1500 and 3000 words(excluding Abstract).  Tables and figures only strictly necessary for the presentation should be included.
 
4.  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS :    Where authors desire they may include a short section of acknowledgements.  It should not be more than 50 words.  
 
5. TABLES:          Tables must be submitted separately on individual sheets of paper numbered consecutively.  The position of each table should be indicated in the text (e.g. table 1).  Title and column headings should be in lower case letter except for the initial letter of the first word and proper nouns.  A complete list of tables with titles should be presented on a separate sheet of paper where necessary.
 
6.  The diagrams, drawings, graphs etc. must be prepared on Tracing Cloth, Bristol or high quality papers with India ink.
 
7.  The diagrams should not be bigger than 23cm x 16 cm
 
8.   If there is any photo the same must be on glazed paper
 
9.   The metric system of units are to be used.
 
10.  PAGE NUMBERS:     Number all pages, except the first, in the upper right hand corner.
   
 
 
ELECTRONIC FORMAT
 
The standard operating system for the convention is Windows 98.  The preferred electronic format for manuscripts is MS Word.  Text developed in other formats should be converted to ASCII files (Plain text files).   The graphs for the paper, as far as possible, should be produced in Harvard Business Graphics.  In case of graphs developed in other graphics packages the individual data points can be sent in ASCII format with a "," to delimit each data point and spaces to separate data sets or ranges.  Alternatively it can be produced in Excel or Powerpoint programme.
 
In all cases of electronic format for manuscript and figures, authors should provide a note describing the programs used and the identification of files.
 
Diskettes should be 3.5 inch standard size.  In all cases the electronic format should be accompanied by a hard copy of all relevant information.  Files should be virus-free as far as possible.  Papers can be sent as E – mail attachments, as long as these are within 200 K.Bites otherwise, it should be zipped files.
 
Also alternatively if above electronic format facilities are not available with the author, then it that case they may send three hard copies of the manuscript.  Three copies of the main text typed or printed double spaced on standard A4 or 28 cm x 21 cm sheets, accompanied by three copies of the figures and tables as described above, should be sent.
 
 
CERTIFICATE
 
Authors are requested to give a certificate that the papers / posters submitted are original and have not been communicated for publication elsewhere..  It is very necessary that this information should be given without fail to avoid rejection of the papers.
 
Papers received after the due date and if not found in accordance with the instructions given would be liable for rejection.  The suitability or otherwise of the paper will be judged by a panel of judges or experts whose decision will be final.
 
 
PRESENTATION DURING THE CONVENTION
 
Each paper shall be allotted a total time of 20 minutes for presentation & discussion during the convention.  The authors are therefore requested to come prepared with slides, transparencies, power point presentation, floppies etc. and try to finish the presentation in 10-12 minutes so that, sufficient time is left for a few questions and answers.
 
 
HONORARIUM
 
In order to give encouragement to the authors of the papers, Rs.2,000.00 (Rupees Two Thousand only) per paper as Honorarium is given to the authors subject to the following conditions:
 
1.    Honorarium will be paid only after presentation of the paper
 
2.    Honorarium will be paid to the author presenting the paper
 
3.    Any person, other than the author/authors presenting the paper will
       not be eligible for honorarium.  
 
4.    Honorarium shall be Rs.2000/- for the 1st paper which is 
       accepted         by STAI and presented by the author and Rs.500/-      
       each for all subsequent paper which are accepted and presented
       by the same author.
