The important activities carried out by STAI are :
• Co ordinate with all Sugar Industry associates for continual
development of Sugar & Alcohol Industry
• Holding of an Annual Convention, Seminars and Workshops on topics related to development of the Indian Sugar Industry
• Publishing scientific journals, periodicals on technical aspects, research papers presented at international seminars/workshops,
• Publishing Year Book & Technical Directory of Cane Sugar Factories in India
• Conducting research and development work and reviewing the problems of sugar industry
• Year Round training programme for various professionals at different
levels
• Nominating representatives on different committees/panels etc. constituted by Government
• Library facilities for the members

National Activities : Seminars

The Association organizes a number of seminars/workshops throughout the year on vital issues connected with the problems/development of the Indian Sugar Industry. In these events there is free flow of information/deliberations by the technocrats on the research carried out by them in the fields/factories. These events receive overwhelming response from the sugar fraternity.
In the year 2009-10 the Association will organize the following seminars :
1. On 30th Oct.09, STAI successfully organized All India seminar on “Varietal Improvement & Intercropping in Sugarcane with Wheat & Other Crops at Hotel Clarks Avadh, Lucknow U.P. The seminar received overwhelming response from the delegates.
2. Two days seminar on “Feasibilities of Sugarcane to Refined Sugar Production” at Belgaum, Karnataka. (Venue & Dates to be communicated shortly)
3. All India One Day Seminar on Clean Development Management (CDM) & Environmental Issues in Delhi in Nov. `09 end or in Dec. `09 (exact date will be communicated shortly)
4. One day seminar on “Competitiveness of the Indian Sugar Industry” at NSI, Kanpur, March 2010 (exact date will be communicated shortly)
5. Seminar on Cogeneration in U.P., January 2010 (exact date will be communicated shortly)

• All India seminar on “Clean Development Mechanism / Carbon Credit” & “Alternate Feedstock of Sugar Industry for Manufacture of Ethanol & Its Economics” & “Reducing the Manufacturing Cost by Adopting Newer Viable Technology & Better Efficiency such as Co-generation, Ethanol & other Biofuels if any” at Jaisalmer Rajasthan in Jan `08
• All India seminar on “Water Management in Sugarcane Development” & “Modern Techniques Abating Water Pollution in Distilleries” at, Kodai Kanal, Tamil Nadu from in March `08
• All India two days seminar on “Filtration Technology” & “Impact of Quality

National Activities : Conventions
|
STAI organizes an annual convention every year in different parts of the country. The Convention is attended by around 700/800 delegates from India and abroad. This is perhaps the biggest gathering of the sugar technocrats in India under one roof. Apart from knowledge dissemination, the Convention also offers excellent business promotion opportunities, platform for networking & exploring business opportunities and tie-ups. So far the Association has organized 70 annual conventions & 8 joint conventions with DSTA & SISTA(South Indian Sugarcane & Sugar Technologists Association) in which 3638 technical papers have been presented/deliberated by the technocrats, details of which are as follows :
